Good group and a great discussion about getting started with the right blend of attention to both protecting your IP and also getting your business off of the ground and making money.

We saw two great inventor presentations.

Jordan Ross, a 14 year old middle school student, presented his vision for a new type of television product.

Michael Rusher had just received a new prototype for his respiratory therapy product.

Jim Bradley finally had someone here with whom he could speak Russian!  Ekatherine Vaynberg was here from Moscow visiting the Innovation Center.

Michael Rusher spent some time walking us through his invention, a medical device for respiratory therapy.  Very cool, Michael!

Dan Templeton and Ace McKay whiteboarded Ace’s invention (which we will leave confidential for now).  Good luck figuring out the concept from this sketch.

We caught Mike Forkert in mid-smile and mid-pizza.

A lot of the discussion today revolved around why companies should (or should not) monetarily reward employees who invent valuable or money-saving solutions, regardless of whether they have employment agreements in place that state the employer already owns the idea.  It is a company culture thing – some companies find it important to create more incentive for invention with reward systems, while others don’t.

We at the Inventors Club reward our attendees with pizza.  By the way, big thanks again to Pizza Hut for donating the pizza!

One person has invented a new iPhone / iPad app.  Another couple has created an unique accessory for musical instruments.  Very cool!

Mike Forkert, Dave Gross and I had a great talk with them about protecting IP and entrepreneurship using the Lean Startup “get-in-the-market” technique.  The most interesting thing was that we were able to direct all three people to some resources to carry their projects forward – coders, manufacturers, etc.
